Do any of you dear souls out there have some helpful suggestions on how to manage SOCKS in the laundry?
It is my biggest laundry woe: HOW to match all these socks up! (I am staring mournfully at a pile of 'em right now.)
A. thinks I should just pitch all the socks and then buy socks that are exactly alike for every family member. Then it won't matter!
I am sorely tempted at times to do just that!!
I will cherish your ideas gratefully if you would be so kind as to offer them.

GAME SHOW sock matching! The children get points for matching socks! =)
OR 5 cents a pair! See who can match the fastest!
Rebecca, I remember you doing that! So you don't do that anymore?
Erin, I hate folding socks too. Yuck yuck yuck. I always leave them for aaron. The only problem is he can't tell Joel's from Micah's (what??--one is a baby, and one is 3!!)
Great idea, Tammy~! Is that how your family managed socks? I am sure that laundry was the continual Olympic event at your house.
YEAH Rebecca, I can't see that happening. I remember that you used to do that!
Strangely enough, after I posted this the other day, Andy came up and said "I'll match the socks, I LIKE doing it!" (he reads this, but never posts)... so, HUZZAH!!
(dear, dear man. the heap of socks are still in the basket, unmatched.)
Whoaaah, Mrs Blythe, that is a LOTTA work!! I genuflect in the direction of your sainted mother for her dedication.
You all must learn here and now that SEWING and I do not mesh. I have tried. I have made several things which I have hated and never worn. I'm just not good at it, and it's very stressful to me. I've made several costumes for the kids (a black felt cape, and a white felt cape) --I was so wrung out and spent afterwards, and it was only cutting out three pieces, ironing some stiff stuff to make the collar stand up, and sewing one seam! (By hand. I don't deserve a sewing machine).
I stand in awe of those of you who sew, (and like it, lol) because it's just not one of my spiritual gifts (tongue firmly planted in cheek). I'll cook anything, oh yesss, preciousss, but to sew...um, well...call Tammy up!! :O)
Follow These Three Easy Steps:
1) Wear the socks untill they smell bad or get stiff.
2) Throw away the socks.
3) Buy new socks. Socks are cheap.
Take if from a bachelor,
Ryan
lol I like Ryan's idea.
Don't have too many socks. If each person only has enough for 5 or 6 days, then there isn't a mountain of them to keep up with.
I can tell Tim's socks from everyone else's. The rest of them are on their own. I wash, dry and mate them (when they don't do it themselves) and they they grab the socks they want.
I did what your husband suggested and I fully support his suggestion. Throw them away and start over. Do not buy new ones to add to the huge pile you already have. Throw them out, buy new ones and not too many. :) This has made my life much better.
